January 31st brought a little anticipation and some confusion to lunch periods at OTIS as it was “Mix It Up Day”!  Lead by Mrs. Macaluso, Mrs. Dambrosio, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Kabourakis, students from 5th-8th grade participated in this social experiment. While entering the cafeteria, students were handed papers that said a color and a shape. Tables had signs with the shapes and the colors on them. Students would sit at those tables with other peers who also received the same color and shape randomly. As a way to break the ice, they would have to read and reply to the questions listed on a paper which included: What is your name? What are your hobbies? What’s your biggest dream? If you could travel anywhere, where would it be? Eventually, these questions would spark conversations. The purpose of this exercise was to “Get you out of your comfort zone” and to meet other students who you wouldn’t usually talk to. Hopefully, students got to make new friends and meet new people.
