Mrs. Amey’s 8th graders participated in a genius hour displaying their interests for visitors in the IMC. Genius hour is a concept started by Google to allow their employees time to work on projects they are passionate about during the work day. The students were allowed to pick a project of their choice that fit under one of four categories: Helping the Community, the UnGooglable, Master of the Topic, or Innovative Creations. They had to select a concept, pitch their idea to the class, research information and create their project over a two month period. The final step was to share their findings/interest with others. They worked on the projects once a week in school and outside of school. Projects ranged from homemade Gummy Bears to creating a hanging garden and changing waste into taste with fashionable bags. This just goes to prove that anything you have an interest in can become a learning experience.
