Garden Club is Planted at OTIS

Daniel Silva

The founder of The Garden club is Mrs. Edson. She took interest in making this club because she always had a garden growing at home. She has been teaching for 13 years and this is her 5th year running the garden club. It has lots of fun things you can learn about like how to care for a garden, how to read a seed packet, how to harvest, composting, and sustainability. Some activities you can do include working on the garden space, weeding and planting. Also participants can make reusable planters with recyclable materials. They meet every Tuesday.

“This is my 13th year, but 8th in Ocean Township.” This shows that she is very experienced and you will be in good hands if you join.

They like to grow vegetables like tomatoes, beans, lettuce, zucchini, cucumbers and peppers and fruits like grapes and strawberries. They plan to start growing fruit trees, like figs and cherries if possible. In colder months they will focus on sustainable activities and prepare for the spring planting. They need to start seeds around February-March and then will plant in May. They are going to try to propagate fig trees from my yard during the winter months, paint rocks to add to the rock garden, and reuse plastics to make into planters.
