Hollywood Protest Never Ending

Hollywood right now
Hollywood right now

What started on May 2, 2023, has been a never-ending protest in Hollywood, California. Actors and film writers are on strike demanding better pay because companies like Amazon, Apple, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, NBCUniversal, and others are making more money than the actors themselves. According to authorities, many actors and film writers are frustrated, stomping up and down streets, and holding signs that demand for better pay.

This has caught many people’s attention, including celebrities. Mark Ruffalo, an actor, was one of those celebrities who noticed this strike. Mark Ruffalo said, “I urge us striking at the same time as the writers to change the awful inequality of money and power in film and television. I remember when we went on strike in 1960, the only time writers and actors struck at the same time.”

This has also caught writer and actor Glen Powell’s attention. He said, “For years, I survived off of residuals while trying to make it as a working actor. This business continues to evolve and actors’ livelihoods should be protected every step of the way. I stand in solidarity with my fellow artist.”

People frustrated after the strike causes popular shows to be on hold for more than 1 year or more.

This has been going on longer than expected. According to sources, this recent strike has been going on for 148 days. This is not the first major strike in Hollywood. There have been 22 strikes, including the one that has been happening in the year of 2023. The longest Hollywood strike was in 1942-1944. The strike was called “Musicians’ Strike.” It lasted for 834 days. It’s hard to know when this will end.
